Recipes from Everyday Cooking Pulao-Basmati Rice cooked with Whole Spices 2 cups uncooked Basmati rice1 tablespoon cooking oil 2 cloves 1 large cardamom 1 small cardamom 1 4 inch cinnamon stick 2 bay leaves ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon turmeric 3 cups warm water Rinse rice in a bowl. Heat oil in a pan, add all the whole spices. Let them sizzle for a minute. Add rice and 3 cups of water. Add salt and turmeric. Let it come to a boil and then reduce heat and leave to simmer for 15-20 minutes. Serve with any meat or vegetable entree.
