Jasmine
in Her Hair featured in Port Arthur News, Texas
Huma Siddiqui tells of door-to-door fruit and bangle sellers, days-long
wedding ceremonies in her native Pakistan and her own struggles as a
single mother coming to America in “Jasmine in Her Hair”.
Fascinating memories and beautiful photos of this culture are interspersed
between recipes. Visit www.whitejasmine.com for
more details. For now, try this rich recipe for rice pudding that my
own Jasmine and I love at buffets. I made it on Sunday morning and it
was a hit, hot or cold.
Kheer-Rice Pudding:
1 cup long grain rice
1 tin sweetened condensed milk
3 cups whole milk
½ cup sugar
Chopped almonds and pistachios
2 cups water
Wash rice and cook in water for 10 minutes on medium heat. Add condensed
milk, sugar and whole milk. Cook for another 15 minutes, stirring continuously,
until the kheer thickens in consistency. Remove from fire. Pour into
a bowl and garnish with chopped almonds and pistachios. Serve warm or
cold.
